If your tap’s water flow seems weaker than usual or has started to spray unevenly, the issue may not be your plumbing — it could be a blocked aerator.

Newtech’s Evoke tapware features high-quality Neoperl® integrated-thread aerators, designed to deliver consistent water pressure and a smooth stream. These small but vital components can gradually accumulate debris, especially in areas with hard water. Fortunately, cleaning them is easy and only takes a few minutes.

Here’s how to clean the aerator on your Newtech Evoke tapware for optimal performance and longevity.

What Is an Aerator — and Why Clean It?

An aerator is the small mesh screen fitted inside the spout of your tap. It mixes air into the water stream, reducing splash and improving water efficiency. When clogged, they can cause weak pressure or erratic spray. A quick clean helps restore proper performance and ensures your tapware functions as intended.

Step-by-Step: How to Remove and Clean Your Aerator

Evoke taps use discreet, integrated-thread aerators that sit flush with the spout. They’re removable using the blue aerator key provided with your tapware.

1. Remove the Aerator

  • Locate the supplied Neoperl aerator key (included in the box when you purchased your Evoke tap).

  • Insert the key into the aerator at the end of the spout, making sure that the indentations are interlocked. Gently turn the key counter-clockwise to unscrew the aerator.

  • If you no longer have the key, replacements are available via plumbing suppliers or by contacting Newtech.

2. Soak and Clean

  • Fill a small bowl with a 1:1 solution of warm water and white vinegar.

  • Place the aerator in the bowl and let it soak for 30–60 minutes to dissolve mineral deposits.

  • Gently scrub with a soft toothbrush to remove any remaining debris. Avoid using sharp tools that could damage the mesh.

3. Rinse and Reinstall

  • Rinse the aerator thoroughly under clean water to remove any vinegar residue.

  • Reinsert the aerator into the tap and thread it back in place by using the key. Gently turn the key clockwise until the aerator is snug, avoiding over-tightening. Over tightening may damage the aerator’s o-ring, resulting in a leaky tap.

Tips for Long-Term Maintenance

  • Aim to clean your aerator every 3–6 months, or more often if your area has hard water.

  • Pair aerator cleaning with your regular tapware care routine: a soft cloth and mild soap are all you need to keep electroplated and PVD finishes like Black, Brushed Nickel, or Gunmetal looking their best. Avoid using harsh cleaners or scouring pads.
